One of our favorite things about summer is wearing big hats, especially ones adorned with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS. The staff at Merchants Overseas was so excited to design this one-of-a-kind hat with the Crystal Applicator Tool. The whole design took about 45 minutes. The process would have gone much faster if we didn’t create the roses. Applying decorative buttons with the Crystal Applicator Tool is quick and easy. Scroll down for instructions to create your own.

Supplies:

  • Wide Ribbon (to go around hat)
  • Thinner Ribbon (for roses)
  • Felt
  • Hot Glue Gun & Glue
  • Crystal Applicator Tool
  • Decorative Buttons or Snap Fasteners & Appropriate Die Set(s)
  • Hat

Instructions

  1. Cut 7 pieces of felt into various-sized circles. Create one rose at a time.
  2. Place a small dot of hot glue in the center of a felt circle.
  3. Tie a knot on one end of your ribbon and hot glue it to the middle of the circle.
  4. Once the ribbon is firmly attached to the felt, twist the ribbon with your fingers.
  5. Wrap the ribbon around the glue.
  6. Continue to apply glue and wrap the ribbon until the felt is completely covered.
  7. Cut the remaining ribbon, leaving a ½ inch tail.
  8. Wrap the tail around the back of the rose and glue into place.
  9. Trim away visible felt.
  10. Attach a crystal center using the Crystal Applicator Tool, die set and decorative button.
  11. Repeat steps 2-10 to make additional roses
  12. Sew or hot glue them to the wide piece of ribbon.
  13. Sew or hot glue the decorated ribbon to your hat.
